Résurgence de Baron (Java, Indonésie)
Along the south coast of Java, the karst expanse of the Gunung Sewu region spreads over 1,000 square kilometers (3,280,850 square feet) to the south east of Jogjakarta. It contains a large network of caves (which measures in kilometers) that makes up a complex water drainage system under the surface. The water reappears at the edge of the Indian Ocean shores after a good 10 kilometer-long journey. It is quite probable that there may be additional underwater springs to be found further off shore as well. The largest known spring goes by the name of Baron; it is located right along the shore of the bay that bears the same name. The river that emerges there flows above ground for a short distance before it throws itself again into the sea, smack through the middle of Baron beach, a popular destination for tourists.
